Full Description

This exhilarating course runs from 9am Sat till 4pm Sun and includes meals and accommodation on board.

Ideal for Bareboat Charter Preparation.

Conducted on board an approved 40-foot training yacht, this practical, hands-on course will not only teach you the basics of sailing yachts, it will whet your appetite for more!

You will learn to steer the yacht and work the sails as you sail the boat around beautiful Moreton Bay. The course teaches ropes and knots, how to work the sails and winches, steering and using the compass and safety on board. Students also gain some knowledge of charts and what the buoys and beacons mean. At the end of the course, not only will you understand the basics of yachting; you will be awarded The Start Yachting certificate from the RYA to prove it!

You will spend the weekend away on the boat, with the yacht spending the night at anchor or in another harbour and enjoying the delights of some night sailing. The weekend course includes all meals.

This gift certificate covers one person only.

Participant Guidelines:
There is no age limit, but children need to be accompanied by a paying adult.

Numbers on Day:
There is a maximum of five students on board, plus the instructor.

What to Bring / Dress Code:
Bring: - Daily change of clothes - Hat (and a spare) - Sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent. - At least one warm item of clothing as even in summer it can get chilly at night - Swimming togs and towel - Base and upper sheet and/or sleeping bag or blanket (depending on the weather) and pillow - Wet weather/spray jacket - White–soled trainers or deckshoes (no hard black soles please) - Spare pair of shoes is a good idea in case your others get wet - Pack all belongings in a soft

Duration:
The course commences at 9am on the Saturday and returns at around 4pm on the Sunday.

Availability:
This certificate is valid all year round.

Weather:
The course may be postponed if there is a weather warning – participants will be called either the evening before or on the morning of the course if this is the case.

N/A

Other:
All meals are provided on board, but the crew may eat one evening meal ashore, particularly on the five-day courses. You will therefore need some money for this (it won’t be anywhere expensive!). Those who wish to bring alcohol may do so and the crew usually takes up a kitty at the start of the course for this purpose.
